Description
The Norwegian broadcasting corporation NRK will close the licensing department in Nordland and 100 jobs will be cut. The job cuts are due to changes in the funding scheme for NRK, decided by the Parliament. Currently, the law requires anyone with a TV to pay the TV license, but this system will be replaced by a new funding scheme from 1 January 2020. A new model for financing NRK is under evaluation. The closure of the licensing department has been under discussion over several years, but the news still came as a shock for the employees having worked there for a long time, according to the Broadcasting Director. Nevertheless, the Ministry of Culture plans to create 70 new jobs at the National Library in Mo i Rana.
