Description
France based Schneider Electric, provider of services in the area of energy management and production of electrical equipment has announced plans to cut 600 jobs. In detail the restructuring plan involves the closure of the sites in Saint-Cyr-sur-Menthon, Villeurbanne and Montpellier. The closure of the unit in Montpellier involves around 120 job losses and their relocation to Germany or in Aubenas (Ardèche). Moreover, as announced, 100 temporary jobs contracts will not be renewed at the firm's site in Mâcon; and there are plans to relocate the research and development unit to Grenoble involving the loss of 40 jobs.
Update 15/02/2013: As announced, the unions consider that out of the 120 planned job losses in Montpellier, about 30% will be relocated in Aubenas or Germany. As announced by the company the closure plan will be implemented by the end of 2014 but the unions fear earlier implementation in 2013.
