Description
Slovenske energeticke strojarne (SES) Tlmace, a company producing integrated parts of power and heat stations, will dismiss 311 employees.
Most of the affected employees are unskilled workers. According to the SES CEO, Martin Paštika, redundancies are due to the current economic situation and lower demand. Restructuring is necessary to ensure the competitiveness of the company in the global market. Dismissals are to start in the 3rd quarter of 2012.
UPDATE: In October 2012, the company corrected the number of redundancies. Approximately 200 employees have been made redundant and 67 more from the safety and security division will be dismissed by the end of the year.
Many of those dismissed are men and women over 50 who have been working for SES Tlmače all their life. Now they stress the need for retraining in order to find a job, although the prospects do not seem very positive, especially for women over 50.
