Description
CMA CGM, a French group of companies which is the third largest container shipping organization worldwide, will create 500 new jobs within the next five years. The Group was granted the right to operate and develop Malta Freeport under a 30-year privatization deal signed in October 2004. Before that, the Malta Freeport was operated by a person appointed by the Government of Malta. At present, 232 persons work at Malta Freeport Terminals Limited in Marsaxlokk. Under a new agreement with the government, the Group committed itself to invest EUR 130 million on an extension of the Malta Freeport, while the government extended its lease by five years with a further possible extension of another 30 years.
