Description
In the Handlová region coal mining has re-started in a mine which was closed as ineffective by Federal Government of Czechoslovakia in the early 1990's. High quality brown coal is available there and the increased energy prices made the mining profitable again. After massive reduction of coal mining in Slovakia, employment in the industry was stabilised. The re-opening of the mine in Handlová region offers around 400 new jobs for unemployed miners. According to the mines' director for strategy and planning Mr. František Verbich, available resources would allow brown coal mining there for the next 5-6 years.
