European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
According to information from 2 September 2008, about 200 employees are still working in the company, but they are not dealing any more with production of TV components. "Punch u nás skončil s elektrovýrobou".
In October 2007 Punch Campus, the subsidiary of a Belgian company that manufactures display tubes in Námestovo, announced its decision to dismiss 284 employees of the remaining 500 staff working in the plant. 91 employees were dismissed in January 2008 and the remainder of those dismissed (193) are due to leave the company by the end of February 2008. This announcement follows on from an original announcement in March 2006 in which it was stated that between 500 and 590 employeers would lose their jobs. Production in the plant had been interrupted for a week in early February 2006 but resumed after a few days. Subsequently, actual job losses were restricted to 150 employees on fixed term employment contracts while another 50 employees on fixed term contracts served out the remainder of their contracts. Around 500 employees on permanent contracts continued to work in the plant. According to company manager, Daša Sloviková, the latest redundancy is caused by a reduction in orders from customers. All categories of employees will be affected by the redundancy.
