European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Norsk Hydro, a Norwegian producer of aluminium, wants to close one of its German operations (Stade, Lower Saxony) completely and a second (Hamburg) at least partially. Reason for the closure are rising energy costs in Germany. At current prices, the factories can no longer operate profitably. As yet, there have been no announcements as to how the job losses shall be managed.
