Description
Kaufland, a German retail chain, announced the opening of two new hypermarkets in Galati (Galati County) and Satu Mare (Satu Mare County) on 8 October 2026. The move will create more than 140 jobs across both locations, boosting local employment.
The stores, built on converted buildings, reflect the group’s sustainability strategy. The expansion is driven by the need to strengthen retail presence while adopting green initiatives such as energy-efficient infrastructure and waste segregation systems. Digital features—self-checkout machines and a mobile scanning service—also support the company’s digital transition agenda. Jobs will be created in both cities, with each hypermarket expected to add roughly half of the total new positions.
Kaufland has over 157 000 employees worldwide and operates more than 200 stores in Romania, positioning it as a leading player in the national retail market.
