Description

Amazon, a global e-commerce and technology company, is expanding its logistics operations in the industrial area of Rheinberg. The company is set to create 1,000 new jobs over the next two years, with construction and modernisation work already underway at the existing fulfilment centre.

The expansion is focused on the integration of mobile robotic shelving units, automated conveyor systems and a new upper floor, increasing storage capacity to 20 million items, which is more than double the current volume. This will enable the site to dispatch up to 600,000 parcels per week, compared with around 140,000 at present.

The growth forms part of Amazon’s commitment to the digital transformation of its European logistics network. By automating picking processes and reducing the distances employees need to travel within the warehouse, the company aims to improve operational efficiency while also creating new opportunities for staff training at nearby facilities, including the site in Mönchengladbach.

The Rheinberg facility currently employs approximately 1,000 people. With the planned recruitment of a further 1,000 employees, the workforce is expected to double within the next two years.
