Description

Espoo city, a Finnish municipality, announced plans to cut up to 300 administrative staff. According to the mayor of Espoo, the restructuring is driven by fiscal pressures after social-service reforms, and the city seeks to halt unsustainable debt cycles while preserving core education functions.

In some cases, cuts will be focused on roles that can be automated. The cooperation negotiations are primarily focused on administration positions and not on teaching and educational roles in primary education, upper secondary education or early childhood education.

300 employees account for just under three per cent of all the city’s employees. The city council meeting is scheduled for the 10th of August 2026, after which negotiations may begin.
