European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Deutsche Bahn, a German rail operator, is creating around 500 new jobs at its new ICE maintenance facility in Dortmund. The plant is scheduled to become fully operational in July 2027, while approximately 100 apprentices are currently undergoing training for future roles at the site.
The facility will be the largest and most modern maintenance depot in Germany's long-distance rail network. The investment reflects the company's commitment to digitalisation and the green transition, incorporating advanced electronics as well as renewable energy technologies such as photovoltaic systems and geothermal heating to enable climate-neutral operations. It also highlights a growing demand for highly skilled technical staff, particularly train electricians and other high-tech maintenance specialists.
Previous internal restructuring measures were recorded in the ERM database in early 2026, involving 100 job cuts in Paderborn Deutsche Bahn 2026 - DE, and in 2025, when 1,000 jobs were cut Deutsche Bahn 2025 - DE.
Deutsche Bahn employs approximately 217,000 people in Germany.
