Description
Realco, an Italian cooperative group operating in the food retail and wholesale distribution sector, has initiated a restructuring process due to a severe financial crisis. This could result in the loss of around 1,500 jobs at its logistics centres and retail outlets in Emilia-Romagna and in other italian regions. The company has filed for an arrangement with creditors in an attept to facilitate a merger with one of the major retail groups. On 13 May, Bologna court published a notice of sale for the entire Realco business complex.
This restructuring has prompted concerns from the Si Cobas trade union, which has called for urgent dialogue and a clear continuity plan. The union has declared a state of agitation and announced strike action at the Parma and Reggio Emilia warehouses. The union is demanding immediate institutional dialogue, a suspension of all dismissals, and the re-employment of all workers, either within the acquiring company or, if necessary, through redeployment to other local firms. The union has also requested the involvement of the Ministry of Labour and a parliamentary intervention.
