Description

The Swedish furniture retailer Ikea, a subsidiary of the Inter Ikea Group has announced a significant cost-saving plan that will result in a decrease of 850 jobs in Sweden and the Netherlands. Of these, around 300 employees will be affected in Sweden. The reduction follows difficult years since the pandemic, which has pressured the company to cut costs. The announcement signals a broad internal restructuring across both its Swedish and Dutch operations.

The areas most affected in Sweden are Älmhult and Malmö, where Inter Ikea employs the majority of its 5,500 staff in the country.

The company has announced that it will not go through normal dismissal proceedings but will instead try to resolve the redundancies through agreements with individual employees and in consultation with the social partners.

In March 2026, the largest franchisee under the Inter Ikea Group, the Ingka Group, announced a reduction of 625 jobs in Sweden Ikea 2026 - SE.
