Description
Electrolux Group, a Swedish multinational active in the household appliances manufacturing sector, announced a restructuring initiative in Italy involving around 1,700 redundancies, affecting production workers across all domestic sites and including the planned shutdown of the Cerreto d’Esi (Ancona) plant, with consequences for several local areas.
The plan, presented in May 2026 during a national coordination meeting held in Venice, forms part of a wider global strategy to adjust industrial capacity in response to sustained weak demand in the European market, intensifying competition, high cost structures and increasing operational complexity; overall, the measures are expected to impact close to 40% of the Italian workforce, with notable effects also foreseen at other facilities such as Forlì.
In reaction to the announcement, trade unions Fim, Fiom and Uilm rejected the restructuring proposal and declared a permanent state of industrial action, calling for eight hours of nationwide strike action across all Italian Electrolux plants, while appealing for urgent intervention by the Italian government through the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy and for the involvement of local and national authorities in discussions aimed at protecting employment levels and ensuring the continuation of industrial activities.
