Description

Medienholding Süd, a German media group, announced the planned reduction of up to 45 jobs in its editorial departments over a three-year period ending in 2027. The cuts affect the editorial teams of the Stuttgarter Zeitung, Stuttgarter Nachrichten, Kreiszeitung Böblinger Bote, Eßlinger Zeitung, and Cannstatter Zeitung/Untertürkheimer Zeitung.

The measures are driven by rising costs, including wage, energy, and personnel expenses, as well as a continuous decline in print revenues, while the firm seeks to preserve investment capacity for strategic digital development.

The company, which currently employs about 300 people in these units, intends to implement a voluntary early-retirement and a voluntary leave programme to minimise involuntary dismissals. Details will be negotiated with the works council. The trade union ver.di criticized the job cuts and referred to previous rounds of staff reductions. Against this background, the union stated that socially responsible staff reductions are now hardly possible as they detriorate working conditions for remaining staff.

Medienholding Süd GmbH (MHS) is a subsidiary of the Südwestdeutsche Medienholding (SWMH) and employs around 5,000 people.
