Description

Limak, a Turkish construction company leading the comprehensive renovation of FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium, has presented an Employment redundancy File (ERE) affecting 399 workers. The company justifies the workforce reduction on the grounds that, beyond the stadium project, it has been unable to secure additional contracts. The ERE is planned over a two-year period, with a gradual reduction in staff as construction phases are completed.

At the peak of activity, up to 1,200 workers were involved in the project through various subcontractors. However, the works have been marred by controversy. In November last year, one subcontractor was fined one million euros for employing 79 undocumented Turkish workers. Trade unions have repeatedly denounced irregular dismissals, including cases where workers were allegedly dismissed shortly after participating in protests over labour conditions.

The Catalan Labour Inspectorate has identified irregular employment practices and initiated infringement proceedings. Although FC Barcelona acknowledged “bad practices” in subcontracting in 2024, a promised oversight agreement with unions was never formalised.
