Description

The American company Lyten's acquisition of Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt has been concluded. The company is resuming production of batteries and research activities at both of its acquired locations in Skellefteå and Västerås and is expecting to hire more than 600 people within the upcoming 12 months. Most will be rehires of employees who lost their jobs when Northvolt went bankrupt in March 2025 see Northvolt 2025 - SE.

Battery production in Skellefteå will also be combined with a data centre under a new Industrial Hub. The company's research centre is instead located in Västerås.

The news of the finalisation of the acquisition is welcomed by the ombudsman at the Swedish trade union Unionen, which represents around 1,000 former employees of Northvolt with a right to re-employment. These members are a priority for the new positions at Lyten, according to the ombudsman. However, many former employees have already found new employment or left the country.

Currently, Unionen is waiting for confirmation on when the re-hirings will commence.
