Description
Samsung Electronics Slovakia, a subsidiary of the South Korean electronics manufacturer operating in the consumer appliances sector, has announced the closure of its production plant in Galanta, Slovakia, resulting in approximately 800 job losses at the manufacturing site. The restructuring affects mainly production and technical employees, with operations scheduled to be phased out during 2025.
The redundancies are expected to be implemented through collective dismissal procedures in accordance with Slovak labour legislation. Severance payments and notice periods will apply, and indirect effects may occur among suppliers and service providers linked to the Galanta plant’s operations.
The decision is linked to a global reorganisation of manufacturing capacities and adjustments to production locations within the company’s international network. The job cuts concern predominantly permanent full-time positions in assembly and related support functions, as production activities are to be transferred outside Slovakia.
Government representatives, including the Ministry of Economy, have stated that coordination is under way with regional employers and labour authorities to facilitate the re-employment of affected workers. A detached unit of the Labour Office is to operate at the plant to provide job placement and retraining support, while automotive manufacturers in western Slovakia have indicated interest in hiring experienced production staff.
