Description
Baltic Dairy Board has launched commercial production at its new cheese manufacturing plant in Bauska, creating more than 100 new jobs once full operations are reached. The first batch of cheese produced at the facility was shipped to customers in Italy in late January, and annual production is expected to reach 18,000 tonnes, with exports to over 40 countries worldwide.
The project represents an investment of more than €60 million and includes a highly automated and robotised production complex equipped with modern technology. The plant was built on Baltic Dairy Board’s existing site in Bauska, allowing the company to optimise costs and logistics, particularly due to access to local milk suppliers in Latvia and Estonia. Part of the investment is financed by the Latvian government, which covers around one-fifth of the project value.
In 2024, Baltic Dairy Board reported €12.1 million in turnover (up 8% year-on-year) and a profit of €418,550, compared with a loss the previous year. The company is owned by Lithuania’s Vilkyškių pieninė and is part of the Vilvi Group, which continues to expand its dairy processing operations in the Baltic region.
