Description
KTM, an Austrian motorcycle manufacturer in the transport equipment sector, announced the reduction of around 500 jobs, mainly affecting employees and middle management, with approximately two thirds of the job cuts located in Austria, as part of a restructuring following its insolvency.
The job reductions are linked to a cost-cutting and efficiency programme aimed at lowering fixed costs, streamlining organisational structures and refocusing the product portfolio on the core motorcycle brands KTM, GASGAS and Husqvarna, after the company entered insolvency proceedings at the end of 2024 and resumed operations in 2025.
The workforce reduction will be implemented through dismissals, voluntary exits and organisational simplification, including the removal of an entire management layer, with early notification procedures filed with the public employment service and support offered via an automotive employment foundation.
Public authorities in Upper Austria and the labour market service highlighted available transition measures, while company management stressed the necessity of the measures to stabilise the firm and secure its long-term competitiveness.
Around the time of the motorcycle manufacturer's insolvency declarations in 2024 in Austria, three previous job reductions were registered in the ERM events database; see KTM 2024 - AT,
KTM Components 2024 - AT, and KTM F&E 2024 - AT.
