Description

Bosch, the world’s largest automotive supplier, has announced a major restructuring that will result in the elimination of about 13,000 jobs in Europe by the end of 2030.

In Germany, the company plans to cut 8,610 jobs in several locations across the country by the end of 2030 Bosch 2025-DE . In Austria, around 40 engineering positions will be cut. About 170 jobs are expected to be cut in Romania by the end of 2025 Bosch 2025-RO and 510 in the Business Services division: Bosch Global Business Services 2025 - RO.

The job cuts will mainly affect employees in Bosch's mobility division, including production units, research and development units, administration and sales departments. Additionally, 3,400 job cuts will occur in the Bosch Global Business Services, including employees in internal services and operations: accounting, administration, human resources, and various support services.

The company will take up negotiations with the works councils and try to reduce jobs in a socially responsible manner. The decision comes as the company faces a severe downturn in the automotive industry, marked by falling sales, declining profits, and growing cost pressures. Bosch aims to close an annual cost gap of €2.5 billion and improve competitiveness through significant cost reductions, including increasing productivity by AI usage, reducing investments into new buildings and machinery, or making its logistics networks operate more efficiently.

The company plans to negotiate socially acceptable solutions with employee representatives at each site. However, the works council and the IG Metall trade union have strongly opposed the measures, describing them as a ‘social devastation’ and warning of protests in affected regions.

Bosch employs about 418,000 people globally, including 130,000 in Germany.

In 2024, Bosch announced three global restructuring programmes: in January (1,200 jobs cut) Bosch 2024-WO ; in February (3,500 jobs cut) Bosch 2024b-WO ; in November (5,500 jobs cut) Bosch 2024c-WO

Updated, 20/01/2026: Bosch has announced the closure of its automotive components plant in Moulins-Yzeure, France. The decision was communicated to employee representatives during an extraordinary works council meeting on 20 January. The site, which employs 270 workers, is scheduled to close by the end of 2026, although production may cease as early as June 2026: Bosch 2026 - FR.

Negotiations on a social plan are expected to begin in February, covering redundancy terms, support measures, and potential redeployment options for affected workers. The closure is part of a broader restructuring programme within Bosch’s Mobility division, aimed at generating €2.5 billion in annual savings. The company cites a sharp decline in orders, overcapacity in the automotive sector, increased competition, and the slowdown of electromobility. The plant specialises in automotive braking systems.
