Description

Ryanair has initiated an Employment Redundancy File (ERE) affecting approximately 100 ground handling staff at Santiago de Compostela's Rosalía de Castro Airport, following the airline’s decision to close its base there due to increased airport fees imposed by Aena. While 135 cabin crew members will be relocated, between 100 and 120 ground support employees face dismissal.

The company also plans to drastically cut its flights from Santiago (from 100 to just 15), leading to a forcasted 50% drop in passenger volume. The works council, represented by CIG and CCOO, warns that up to 75% of direct airport jobs could be lost as a result.

Protests have been announced, with the first demonstration planned for the upcoming Thursday. The committee is calling for urgent intervention from both the Xunta (Regional Government) and the Spanish central government.

The company already experienced a previous restructuring process in Spain in 2022 Ryanair 2022-ES, with the creation of 120 new jobs
