Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

As announced on 5 September 2025, according to trade union IG Metall, aluminum supplier Novelis plans to cut 197 full-time positions at its Koblenz site. The Koblenz plant employs 1,400 people.
According to the company, the restructuring will take place as part of a transformation process to increase competitiveness.
Novelis aims to cut jobs in a socially responsible manner. IG Metall does not rule out strikes if compulsory redundancies occur.
Novelis is headquartered in the USA and employs around 13,000 people worldwide across 33 sites, of which about 2,400 are in Germany.
