Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

As announced on 1 September 2025, the German steelwork Rohrwerk Maxhütte in Sulzbach-Rosenberg closed and ceased its operations. This affects all of its 300 employees who have been immediately laid off and whose contracts will eventually be terminated. Negotiations with the works council regarding a social plan for the employees are currently ongoing.
After several insolvencies, no investor could be found. The main reason cited for the insolvency was insufficient utilization of production capacity. For years, the plant was one of the largest steelworks in Germany. The Bavarian state government unsuccessfully tried to save the steel plant with around 250 million euros.
