Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

As announced on 2 September 2025, the content marketing agency Territory, a subsidiary of Bertelsmann, is cutting 120 jobs across all locations in Europe. It is estimated that around 60% of job losses are in Germany. In total, the agency employs 750 people.
The locations affected are Hamburg, Cologne, Gütersloh, Munich, Verl, and Leverkusen, as well as sites outside Germany. The agency aims to reorganise its structure to meet the growing demands of the market. The focus is primarily on streamlining operations to become more efficient and competitive.
The 100 positions being eliminated are mainly in the agency division and the back office. In addition, the internal Marketing Technology start-up will be shut down in October 2025, affecting 20 employees. Management and the works council have already agreed on a reconciliation of interests and a social plan.
