Description

ČD Cargo, the largest Czech rail freight carrier, has announced to lay off another 700 employees by the end of the year 2025, which represents more than ten percent of its workforce of approximately 6,100. According to available information, 287 employees are to be laid off in the first wave of layoffs by October 1, of which 104 are train drivers and 76 are shunters.

The company is facing a significant decline in transport volumes due to reduced production in mines and steelworks. Overall, freight transport on Czech railways fell by 5.3 per cent in the first half of the year, with ČD Cargo reporting a decrease of 3.2 percent. ČD Cargo is a subsidiary of the state-owned rail operator České dráhy (ČD).
