Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

Primark, the Irish low-cost fashion retailer and parent company of Penneys, has announced that it plans to cut 150 jobs worldwide.
The majority of the proposed redundancies - about 100 roles - will be at the company’s international headquarters in Dublin Primark 2025-IE, representing approximately 7% of the 1,500 staff based there. The layoffs will also affect employees in the UK and the United States. The job losses are in HR, finance and procurement and are part of a plan to move support functions to a third party based in Mumbai, India. A collective consultation process has begun, and the company has stated it will work to support affected employees.
Primark, headquartered in Dublin (Republic of Ireland), was founded in 1969. The chain has over 450 stores in 17 countries. Primark employs over 82,000 people.
