Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.

Wildermuth Bauunternehmen, a German building construction and civil engineering company based in Bietigheim-Bissingen (Baden-Württemberg), announced the closure of the company in May 2025 and thus the complete redundancy of around 100 employees. The closure is due to a massive decline in orders and the general economic situation; all jobs will be cut permanently. The shutdown is expected to be completed in the coming months.
The redundancies will be made without severance pay and no provision has been made for socially acceptable measures such as early retirement schemes or natural fluctuation.
The IG Bau trade union sharply criticized the procedure, the lack of transparency, and the complete dismissal of long-serving employees without compensation.
The family business, founded in 1906, was last managed by the third and fourth generations.
