Description
The mining company OKD has announced plans to decrease its workforce by 400 employees by the end of 2025 as the company prepares to cease coal mining in the Karviná region.
OKD is digging the tunnels for the last two shafts in history. 250 people will leave in July. Dismissed employees will receive generous severance pay up to 11 months' salary and be offered job search assistance as part of the New Shift program.
The mining company expects to pay out CZK 263 million (€ 11 million) in severance pay this year. OKD currently employs 3,100 people, of whom 2,300 are permanent employees. The average age of permanent employees is 49 years. The average monthly gross salary in 2024 was CZK 56,985 (€ 2,291).
