European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Allibert, a French manufacturer of bathroom furniture, was placed into judicial liquidation, resulting in more than 130 job cuts in France. The liquidation decision was taken by the Commercial Court of Grenoble, following the failure to secure a viable takeover, and the dismissals will be implemented as part of the liquidation procedure.
The restructuring and subsequent closure are attributed to the severe downturn in the property and construction sector. According to the company, Allibert has been confronted with the effects of the crisis in the real estate market, which weakened demand and undermined the group’s financial viability. The withdrawal of the most comprehensive takeover offer shortly before the court hearing ultimately led to the absence of a sustainable recovery solution.
The job cuts affect several sites across France. They include Bath Fournitures in Châtellerault with 59 employees, New Bath in Troyes with 34 employees, Allibert Sanitaire in Voiron with 16 employees, and BDSF, also in Voiron, with 23 employees. A Belgian subsidiary employing 39 people is also mentioned, but the liquidation procedures described concern the French entities only. The redundancies will be carried out through dismissals for economic reasons, as required under a judicial liquidation. No further details are provided on occupational categories or phased implementation.
